Cbeebies Abney and Teal
« on: October 13, 2011, 09:12:58 PM »

Anyone know what the tune is that Toby Dog plays (Tim van Eyken) on Abney and Teal? About 25 seconds in on the clip on this page http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/abneyandteal/watch/abneyandteal-clips/

I'd love to learn it to play my son  :D

thanks,

Peter

Hiya,
Tim van Eyken created that tune especially for Toby Dog, (and I created the show). There is also a slow waltz version that sounds quite Dolly Parton-ish that is sometimes used in the show, but mostly it's just the one recording.

Myself and some of my friends and relations have been posting the odd video of us playing it on youtube, although none of us is sticking all that rigidly to Tim's playing (I just happen to have heard it an awful lot of times in the editing room!). Here's a link if it's any help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syhaOd8jA0Y I'm hoping more people might respond and have a go at playing it (Tim is fine with this).

Thanks for the links.  Tried so see Abney and Teal when it was on, but it was at an 'awkward' time for a middle aged commuter, and I couldn't find it on BBCi'.  Excellent in its genre.  Reminds me of what I got to watch when I was a young dad :|glug

Is  there really another Dolly ???

Hiya, I'm afraid I don't really do dots much (am slowly learning so I can dig out tunes from my dad's many tunebooks) and I don't think Tim ever wrote it down...

Toby Dog plays in nearly every episode. Sometimes we do have to do quite brutal edits to the tune for storytelling reasons...

He plays it at about 7mins.30 here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b017b47j/The_Adventures_of_Abney_and_Teal_The_Moon/

The waltz version is used at the end of this episode: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b015sl07/The_Adventures_of_Abney_and_Teal_Firefly_Lullaby/

No Dolly like your Dolly Chris! (:)

I was at a party on christmas eve, a family had got their young boy a toy melodeon for christmas because he's become obsessed with Toby Dog, thought it was quite sweet, he got very excited when I showed him a real one :)
Might have to learn the tune for him, its really nice!

I'm a Yorkie!
My other melodeon's a fiddle, but one of my Hohners has six strings! I also play a very red Hawkins Bazaar in C and a generic Klingenthaler spoon bass in F.!! My other pets (played) are gobirons - Hohner Marine Band in C, Hohner Tremolo in D and a Chinese Thingy Tremolo in G.
