Poll: Tune of the Month for November 2011
« on: October 25, 2011, 12:28:17 AM »

Here we go again folks! Name your favourite choice for playing in November out of this lot:

Inna Inna - Last month's narrow loser, we now know it's name! It's a traditional An Dro from Brittany adapted by Yann Fanch Perroches, and here's a link to a lovely version of it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kmy8Jl-7aZA

Yann-Fañch says:

Quote
It’s an adaptation I did of a song by the band « les ours du Scorff », but this song comes from a traditional tune…
Corinne and Denis playing on the video
Not sure of the original name… I call it « Inna inna ! »
East Brittany dialect (Gallo) for : "There is some, there is some !"

Beatrice Hill's Three Hand Reel (also known as Fiddler Locke's, and maybe also as Dennis Crowther's Number 3) - yet another classic English tune, here demonstrated for us by the wonderful Ed Rennie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxO7dXysXyg

Enrico: while we're plundering Ed's collection of wonderful English tunes, how about this one - another classic hornpipe that's very useful in sessions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeL-qKVx0aQ

Blimey. I could do a entire month of nominations from Ed's youtube channel, really I could. But I'll resist, and for the interests of balance choose something from further afield for the last nomination:

Midnight on the Water: Yes, I'm nominating this again. It deserves to win sometime; it really does - it's a cracker. An American waltz, so old it's almost classed as traditional, but it was in fact written by Luke Thomasson. If you squint really hard, you might be able to see a melodeon playing it here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpRN7ykFaHE ; our own Bill Johnston's got a version here (with words written *much* later by Ron Kavana) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1dIWAqDGrk ; and just for completeness, here's my favourite non-melodeon version, played on autoharp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPNXOTmXBPw

Happy voting!

That's a nasty choice Clive - 4 lovely tunes, how am I supposed to decide? Guess I'll just have to learn them all  :o (and yes, I know, one of these days I must get around to posting one again, rather than just attempting to learn them in the privacy of my own home!).

Indeed. I don't remember ever seeing one from you (before my time, perhaps)

I suppose I should take the adventurous route and vote for Inna Inna, (though I haven't even heard it yet), because it's the only one  I don't know.

Inna Inna is my choice also, not just because it is the only one I don't know but because it is such a beautiful tune. Does anyone have the dots or the ABC, which would save me the laborious process of learning it by ear?

I recognise "Enrico" it's the tune used for "Bold Sir Rylas" by Spiers & Boden  :||:

arghhh the midnight on the water is so romantic  ::)

that's the one I prefer ...

I love Hector's version, the other one with the harp, and I enjoyed the way the other man sings at the end ...

Hope it will win.

I look forward to the result with interest but am happy for the rest of the team to decide.  All of them would be a new pleasure for me.

Inna Inna fits into my struggle to figure out how to play an An Dro, so it wins my vote. I'm hoping to hear lots of examples if it is the TOTM.
