Poll: Tune of the Month for December 2011
« on: November 24, 2011, 12:06:09 AM »

Here we go again folks! From the top:

Inna Inna - Last month's narrow loser - again! It's a traditional An Dro from Brittany adapted by Yann Fanch Perroches, and here's a link to a lovely version of it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kmy8Jl-7aZA

Yann-Fañch says:

Quote
It’s an adaptation I did of a song by the band « les ours du Scorff », but this song comes from a traditional tune…
Corinne and Denis playing on the video
Not sure of the original name… I call it « Inna inna ! »
East Brittany dialect (Gallo) for : "There is some, there is some !"

Rabbit Stew - Courtesy of Ollie and Jake, here's some ABC for this wonderful quebecois tune:

Code: [Select]
X: 1
T: Rabbit Stew
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
R: reel
K: Gmaj

gdBc d2 ef|gdBc d4|dDDd DDdD|e2 f2 g4:|

Couldn't find a video/recording of it though. Does anyone know of one we could link to?

Foul Weather Call - always an appropriate tune at this time of year (unless you live in Australia of course), there's now a couple of great recordings of this on youtube for us to listen to: Ed Rennie's here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1FulrcFrns and Anahata's one from earlier this month (first tune): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PU8nuTsKDOQ

Faraway - another tune nominated ages ago, when there wasn't really a decent recording of it. Well, now there is, courtesy of Hector - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNMrTTVEpsA ; this tune written by Pete Jung.

Happy choosing!

Cheers,

Clive

I played Rabbit Stew on my Duet. Very nice tune. But it is a really difficult choice again.

Thanks for the video; that's beautifully played, it really is. A great advert for the tune!

Sounds much nicer than the horrid midi file the abc produces.

The A music of Rabbit Stew seems to be identical to the A music of Scottische à Catinaux!

These are four great tunes, but it would be a shame if Inna Inna didn't win this time: it has come so close twice and is a beautifully elegant little tune. Does anyone have the dots or the ABC for it?

I've often been asked to play "Faraway".

My other melodeon's a fiddle, but one of my Hohners has six strings! I also play a very red Hawkins Bazaar in C and a generic Klingenthaler spoon bass in F.!! My other pets (played) are gobirons - Hohner Marine Band in C, Hohner Tremolo in D and a Chinese Thingy Tremolo in G.

Foul Weather Call is a much more interesting tune than peops are perhaps giving it credit for. There are lots of ways it could be approached. I'm right disappointed it's only got 4 votes at the mo.  :( Anyway we had an Andro(id) very recently and I'm a vegetarian so I can't vote for Rabbit Stew!

I know Rabbit Stew as the French Canadian tune Saut a Lapin, commonly used in contra dances in the US.  Rough translation: jumping rabbit!
