Hello !

The people have spoken! This month's tune of the month is Bear Dance, or Berendans, or all manner of other variants.

Many thanks to have accepted me on this forum.

Here's my little contribution to this TOTM ..

There's been some discussion on this forum regarding inferior 'English' versions of this tune. Congratulations on a great version Diatosoldo - I propose that this should now become the standard & will start promoting it in sessions as soon as I get the hang of it.

[quote authorThis is the Bear dance in the way we are playing it in our groupe. I am holding the camera that's why I am not playing but you can see my friend Guy playing on a Castagnari G/C. The leader of the groupe is Suzy, you can recognise her easily. She's English and  is  playing all sort of instruments.. We are singing it in the language of occitan and should you want the texte I can forward it.

Thanks so much for posting this version by your group.

I really enjoyed hearing the WORDS sung in that wild way.

Yes it would be good to see the text, plus a translation into French or English.

I'm thrilled that we are getting  vrais Francais et Francaises posting on the Forum. Bravo!!!

I though synaesthesia was seeing colours when you heard music. Is the chord thing part of it too?

It is, but each chord has it's own hue, so she can identify chords from colours. But single notes are more difficult, it is the harmony that she sees, rather than the pitch.

I'm obviously eating the wrong mushrooms  :P

Enjoying posts so far. Hope I can post soon  :|||:

This is getting confusing - any chance of merging these two threads so that at least all the tune postings are in the same place?

Bon, alors Raymond et Astrid :
Il faut poster vos liens sur la bonne rubrique hein ?
Voilà comment faire :
Cliquez sur "forum home"
Ensuite vous cliquez sur la 6ème rubrique, c'est "tune of the month"
Et là vous trouvez "tune of the month January 2012"
Un peu d'organisation ! sinon ils vont pas nous garder :(

(I'm telling those frenchies they should be more organised ! don't worry, I'm sure they will :|||:

Not in a band - all instruments played by me and multitrack recorded with Acoustic Mixcraft 5.

I've had a go at using the "berendans"  B part, from the Kings Galliard (Flemish?)  youtube  and the  John Chambers abc notation previously mentioned.   But then I go onto the usual tune for a faster version  on the outside row, while trying to keep a feeling of the B part switching in the major.   Echoes of  "Johnny goes marching home" in the final sequence.  I did try to use diatosoldo's B part, but my fingers weren't fast enough.

So my least preferred tune of the four turned out to be quite fun to play with after all.

http://youtu.be/67LcLZz-MG0

Has anyone found out where the tune really came from, and which is the earlier version?

I really loved your version - the choice of chords particularly - I'm guessing that without 12 basses, getting the same effect wouldn't be possible?

Hello !

Tiens, bonjour Samuel !
Et bravo.

And let's have a new "rendez vous" next month !

TOTM is going to be a international meeting ! Since you did have the idea to "contest" (is it the word in english ?), I never have had it myself .. It's very "cool" to see how the same tune can be played and travel around the world, with so many different personalities, techniques etc ..

It's also making the rise of a kind of a real life in the virtual world ...

Best regards,
