This is my first TOTM and only did a one taker with crap mic, sorry

What system do you play?! That was in Eb minor, unless my ears were deceiving me. Presumably a mic effect, as you looked to be fingering in Emin.

Ah someone caught me!! The box is D/G but I used Adobe Audition to make the audio vaguely interesting to distract from the lack of quality (mainly no bass end and this box has a loud bass). While I was there I decided to toy with pitch shifts and at first tried Cm, it sounded awesome but was obviously pitch shifted. But Eb minor is one of my fav keys so used that. Just to make difference. In all honesty, Bear Dance doesn't suit Em as well as other keys to me. I try to play it in Am in sessions but people moan though it is the same fingering.

Don't mess with perfect pitch ;)

Don't mess with perfect pitch ;)

Something I wish I had, I have whatever the other one is called. Figuring out the key from knowing the key from audio memory of songs etc

Relative pitch I think. PP isn't quite as useful as you think, sometimes it's a right pain. Makes playing transposing instruments by ear impossible - there's a reason why I have a C clarinet and a C saxophone. My girlfriend has synaesthesia, which is like perfect pitch but with chords rather than notes. I can identify any note, but chords are more tricky. My girlfriend can identify chords but not notes. Between us we are unbeatable! The interesting thing is that both PP and synaesthesia (and relative pitch for that matter) gives you very set views on keys. I find it all fascinating.

I though synaesthesia was seeing colours when you heard music. Is the chord thing part of it too?

It is, but each chord has it's own hue, so she can identify chords from colours. But single notes are more difficult, it is the harmony that she sees, rather than the pitch.

Here's my humble offering for this month.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KYzMP98Ibk

It's so interesting to see what the really good players do with these tunes every month.  The variety is amazing.  I feel I am learning so much from this and I'd like to say a big "Thank You!" to whoever came up with the brilliant idea.  Although I've been remiss in posting frequently, I have worked on all the tunes and have learned something from each tune.  I also now love mazurkas, though I'd never heard of one before I came across Tune of the Month.

Hi Clive and thanks,
I really needed a break from the website work yesterday, so I took the morning off to have a go at Bear Dance.

The recorder sounding thingy is is fact a 'D' Whistle, I have loads of whistles around the place but never really practiced on them. This was the first time I have used one to record anything. Must admit to tweaking the top end of the sound to make it more 'recorder' like.
