Here's my contribution this month.

Howard

I really admire this version. The variety you introduce seems to grow very naturally from the basic tune, and it all fits together in a natural, uncontrived way. Nicely conceived and played throughout...thanks!!

No titles so - it's on a D/G Salterelle.

Howard

I'm intrigued by your bass layout; it seems to have Em/B & D/A on the top row and C/C and G/D in the middle, If this is the case, what's on the bottom row?  Is it a standard factory layout or a special?

Newly acquired G/C Hohner Viktoria. Also Fender Jazz bass, Telecaster, Stratocaster, Epiphone Sheraton, Charvel-Jackson 00-style acoustic guitar, Danelectro 12-string and other stuff..........

It's the standard layout for its time. As you say it has the normal 8 at the top and then Bb/F and Eb/F# at the bottom.
My C/G Bertrand Gaillard has the same layout I think as standard, although I was its second owner.

Thanks for that info - mine's much older, and has the usual 8 at the bottom, and Bb/F and A/Emaj at the top - again, AFAIK the standard factory layout at the time. The layout you have would seem to be more ergonomically efficient. Food for thought....... Mine also came with a 4th-button start, which I've stayed with but altered the low notes to suit me better.

This month, after a long mental struggle with my left hand, I have attempted to play the bass rather than just hold on to it  :D

Here goes.

Another version, this time on my huge Hohner Morino Club N - played in several of the registers so you can hear them!  The pauses are to give time to select the different bass registers  (:)

Watch out for the amazing very low note.....

Enjoy!

Still squeezing after all these years.
Mostly on hohners , with a couple of Dinos and a smattering of anglos - and now a Jeffries duet

A rather rushed single take. (You will note that I am managing expectations here).  On a D/G Loffet box in E minor.  I would say this is pretty much the Anglicised version that one tends to hear in sessions.

My second go at a TOTM. It is very short (thought I'd quit while I was ahead).
I first heard this one done  by the amazing Pyewackett many years ago. I  managed to dig out the recording, but I don't it it rubbed off...
Really chuffed to have got another one done though!

It's been a while  :|bl

First is a fairly standard Bear Dance tune played with the Revenzas last year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yT8GXFtuy0&feature=youtu.be

Replaced the second short impro tune with a better recording hopefully... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D92ztc993Ws

Yikes! Posting 12 TOTM videos is one of my New Year resolutions and here it is already the last day of January. I found this tune easy to learn but unfortunately as soon as I hit the 'capture' button on my 'puter (I use iMovie) my nerves get the better of me and I stuff up heaps. Hence 15 takes >:( , or thereabouts. It is a very basic and quick version.

I learned this entirely by ear by listening to other videos posted here. I haven't even looked at the black dots. This is a skill which I owe entirely to melnet! Considering what a devotee of the black dots I was, this is a big leap in skill for me, for which I am most grateful. Thank you to all who pushed me out of my comfort zone. Just goes to show that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

With just a few hours left before the end of January I thought I'd have a go at the TOTM. I've never played the tune before. I had a quick run through on the Corona III N. It ended up more 'Ghost Dance' than 'Bear Dance'. I should dedicate this one to Kicking Bear.
