When I was taught to dance the mazurka, I was told to think of pushing drawingpins into the floor with my feet.
Alternatively, for my feathered friends, there is the mazurka duck-style: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWSPWuNKdDY

This is a tune of my own manufacture, made for the pipes.  It goes well on a box, or so I like to think in spite of my flailing away at it.

If you want to hear how it sounds fairly well played rather than catch as catch can listen here:

Here's a mazurka'd version of Happy Birthday; always confuses people until the usual tune gets tagged on the end.

Here's another one.
I wasn't on melnet when we had L'inconnu de Limoise for tune of the month, and I'd been meaning to to do it some time, so now this serves two purposes...

http://youtu.be/r6lRKDqHAFA - L'inconnu on Hohner C/F Club.

I love the sound of this box, but I'm not all that used to playing the tune on club system so there are a few fluffs. Perhaps I should do one on the Oakwood too.

Salamanders' Siesta from the band  Red Dog Green Dog

http://youtu.be/TriqEVKd6tk

I love that odd melody and the hypnotically repeated chords. Played with drones and  on a gurdy on the CD, but I haven't checked back  for accuracy of the tune.  Hope you like.

It's similar to Bruno LT's  L'oushka at the the start.  I'm posting some comments about these in Teaching and Learning.

Just for a change from the smoochy mazurkas, here are a couple of jaunty italian ones on a proper melodeon which even goes in and out sometimes.
http://youtu.be/ysM-8t2hpIM
Do post onto youtube if you know the names of the tunes.
Ciapa Rusa is one of my top favourite bands for melody.
That's me done for January.
A bientot until February..... when we will have those extra FRENCH voters for TOTM  ;)

(Andy.... much thanks for your appreciation of Salamanders)

this months offering, the "Cinq Cent Mazurka" a beautiful Mazurka from Marc Péroneille , not perfect but I don't think it will get better!
I'm trying to escape the Om Pah Pah syndrone and so I've Ump Pah Umped (does that count or is it basically the same?) it was a bit of a brain ache for me but I think I've got it. There are also a few bass runs  :|||:

Played on my "new" fourth button start Hohner Presswood D/G beautifully restored by Mike Rowbotham. Accompanied by Klaus on his newly restored Violin.

Hope you like it

I liked that. The bass pattern works well for a mazurka, and having a bass note at the end of the bar emphasises the way one bass note leads to the next - and the little I-IV-V-I bass run at the end is perfect!
And the violin harmony in the middle is simple but so effective too.

The Theme this month would not be complete IMHO without one of my favourite Mazurkas 'Miss Lindsay Barker' by Andy Cutting and as I have just returned from my Sicilian adventure with a bewildering Castagnari Evo in C/F with Pignol/Milleret layout I thought I would post it as one of my first expeditions with this beautiful instrument...... ;)

As I've just posted on your YouTube page, this is a delightful tune, beautifully played, and the box sounds wonderful.  In what way is it bewildering - the extra basses?

Hi, Thanks for that Steve.
It is a bit bewildering partly due to more basses but more so because the treble buttons are not where they are supposed to be ;) I am getting used to playing some tunes but my old tunes don't quite fit ;)

Lovely Roland! One of my favourite tunes too, but I've struggled with the phrasing in places - you've given me something to aim for.

Try playing the um chaa cha bass with it for a while before you hold chords.

I’m sure you are right Roland, I’ll try it. I’ve steered away from the more ‘prescriptive’ (for want of a better word) bass style – I've struggled with it from the beginning and prefer to find the right rythym in other ways. However, I’m sure there are many occasions when I make life hard for myself that way.

Getting along much better with The Abbess, which I never thought to attempt until you posted it! Never tire of it.

Cheers    John
