Q re. Roland FR-1
« on: January 05, 2012, 10:50:55 PM »

No doubt I could find this out by scouring Roland's web pages, and maybe the posts in this forum, but I'd rather take the lazy way out and ask it here.

Further to a few posts about temperament in another melnet forum:

1) Does the FR-1 allow you to choose a (predefined) temperament other than ET?
2) Can you adjust the pitch of notes yourself, and thus define your own temperament?

If so, it could provide an ideal way to experiment with alternative tunings before putting scraper to metal.

Thanks in advance.

No, don't think so. My FR-1 certainly doesn't - though I can't claim to have read the user manual or to be very adventurous with the settings, but I'm reasonably sure that although pitch transposition is available, temperament and tuning options are less so. AL

Does this work?

SYSEX

F0H 41H 00H 42H 12H 40H 1nH 40H v1  v2 ... v12 xx F7H

Scale tuning, n is MIDI channel (0 to 15), v1 to v12 are 12 semi-tones tuning values  (C, C#, D, ... A#, B), in the range -64 (00H) 0 (40H) +63 (7FH) cents

I believe it is a Roland MIDI sysex. It would work if the instrument has a MIDI IN port and you could send it these data.

Funny you should ask this. You wouldn't have had to look very far.....

Great minds think alike, though obviously mine is a little slower than yours. Thanks, you have just saved me a pile of money.  (:)

Unless anyone can vouch for the feasibility of Mr. Streb's suggestion?
