Sticking thumb!
« on: May 03, 2013, 03:34:20 PM »

My latest box has a groove along the edge of the fingerboard but with the
celluloid surface I'm finding that my thumb sticks rather than slides. Any advice, any-one?

?polish the groove with a silicone polish  - eg mr sheen - it makes curtains slide easily on wooden poles so might do the same for thumbs in wooden slots??!

Don't you want it to have some friction?  I am constantly and unconsciously moving my thumb along the rebate and using it as the pivot and reference point in a sense for what my fingers are doing. You might also find thread http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,11753.0.html useful  :|glug

George - I'll try it

Theo - The sheer weight means a sweat is no problem!!

Chris - Some friction but nowhere near as much as there is.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure Theo was being a touch facetious - sweat will only make you stick fast, any moisture will.  If you really want to slide easily use some handcream, but you'll also slip off the buttons!  Freshly washed and dried hands work best for me.

Wax polish the celluloid.

Still squeezing after all these years.
Mostly on hohners , with a couple of Dinos and a smattering of anglos - and now a Jeffries duet
