Another late late entry. Here are the two tunes our band use most often for Circle Schottische. Despite my best efforts played a bit on the brisk side. Alexandra Park and the Plane Tree. Normally I'd be playing guitar while Hugh Taylor'd be squeezing. However, we did a gig without Hugh last night and for the first time in about 25 years I played melodeon for the band - interesting (and knackering!).  Played on my D/G Saltarelle L'Elfique with the low register out on the right and thirds out on the left.

Just recorded this last night for my chums in GIG CB, but people here may find it interesting too

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cauBeVlaV9Q

- Orange B (written by Wim Claes) but played in E minor, rather than the more usual B minor; followed by Jan Mijne Man also in E minor - a traditional Danish tune, popularised by Blowzabella. Played on a Mory in D/G with unisonoric basses, but you don't need unisonorics for this - in fact, if anything they get in the way - a 8 bass is just fine. It helps to have a low B available though.

Cheers,

Clive

Thanks! useful site.  Correct spelling noted.  (How do you know when a French word ought to be -eaux or -aux?  Is there a rule?)

Meanwhile I'd already transcribed Anahata's version:

Code: [Select]
X:1
T:Scottish a Catinaux
M:C|
L:1/8
Q:1/2=80
P:ABB
K:G
P:A

BcBA GDGB|dcBc A3G|DEFG A2AB|[1  cBAB G4  :|\
                             [2  c2BA G4  ||
P:B

Combining that with the chords from diatofiddle (transposed):

Code: [Select]
X:2
T:Scottish a Catinaux
M:C|
L:1/8
Q:1/2=80
P:ABB
K:G
P:A
"G"BcBA     GDGB|   dcBc "D"A3G|DEFG A2AB|    cBAc "G"B2G2 |
   BcBA     GDGB|   dcBc "D"A3G|DEFG A2AB|[1  cBAB "G"G4  :|\
                                          [2  c2BA "G"G4  ||
P:B
"G"B2d2 "Em"E2FG|"C"AGFE "D"D4 |DEFG A2AB|[1 Tc2BA "G"B2G2:|\
                                          [2  c2BA "G"G4  |]

Is that OK?

In this case it was the name of the hurdy gurdy player from whom it was collected. Rules, if they exist, probably don't apply with personal names anyway.

Meanwhile I'd already transcribed Anahata's version:
I learned it from Jean Blanchard's CD Accordéon Diatonique, and he quite possibly collected from M. Catinaux himself. I've dug out the CD to check the spelling... Catinaux is how he spells it, and Blanchard is known to be pedantic so I'm sure that's correct.

La Scottish À Catinaux vient de Puy Lacaux, en Marche, ou Monsieur Catinaux, en son auberge, joue de sa vielle avec une style très vivant
...
(The Scottish à Catinaux originates from Puy Lacaux, in Marche. There in his own inn, Mr Catinaux energetically plays the vielle or hurdy gurdy...)

I'd have to do further research to check whether my version is an accurate copy of his, but it was intended to be.

Edited to add: I didn't spell it right on my video caption, but I've corrected it now!

Although, as has already been said, it doesn't apply to names, the rule with regard to -eaux or -aux is that, being plurals, if the singular has an 'e' then the plural will have one as well. If the singular does not have an 'e', then neither does the plural.
