I would put it down to a senior moment.....if I wasn't still such a child!  :|bl

Take it no one's had a link to the music yet? Not that I'm impatient or 'owt...

I'm sort of glad we haven't - it's always better if I don't over-practise!

Kind of agree, enough time to know the tune in my head and have a few stabs, but too much practice is just stuff to unlearn when you are showed what you should be doing.

Yes, but what about those of us who have little time to practice because we work for a living or have family responsibilities that restrict our practice time?

If the music arrived sooner, those of us who have sufficient time to practice can choose not to over-rehearse, but if the music arrives later those of us restricted by other commitments have no choice but to arrive at Witney under-prepared.

We could disagree about this all day Bob, but in previous years I've always had to resort to practising at lunchtime in the car park at work because I don't have any other time... I've no doubt that the same will be true this year. The most important thing is listening to the music, not trying to play it  (:)

Depends I suppose - I was fine with Julian Sutton's tunes last year - but Geert's polkas were tricky for me because they were at the dusty end and I could have done with a bit more time before the weekend on those particular tunes.  With three different workshops this year, plus the big squeeze tune, being able to familiarise myself with the tunes with 2-3 weeks to spare would be good... I think Dave said mid October in the email.... kind of just excited to see what the tunes are really!!

plus the big squeeze tune

Hehe. In 4? 5? years of attending Witney, I have never once yet learned or been able to play the mass tune  ;D I just go by the theory that with a hundred odd other squeezers, no-one has got a hope in hell of being able to hear what I'm playing  ::) :|glug

Oh Ellie, I DO so agree with you !!

I'm not going to worry too much, but it is nice to have heard them once or twice.

That makes me feel better Ellie  :P  At least it won't just be me miming :-P  I should probably put some effort into learning some session tunes that aren't in E minor, so I could at least join in with the session a bit more this year  :o In theory anyway  ;D

Problem is that now I've admitted it, I'm going to have to give it a proper go this year, lest catch me at it  :o

Liz - we can just take over the session with a bit of E minor  8)

I agree with Ellie it doesn't do to learn the pieces perfectly before you go, but in some of the intermediate/higher classes it does REALLY help to be able to basically play the thing at a reasonable tempo. Not sure how you get much out of a workshop about style, dynamics, ornamentation etc if you're spending two hours fumbling for the notes. So it's October 20, there are two more weekends after this one before we start and I would like the music now Chris. Please.

Just had a reply on Facebook from Hands on music. They're still waiting for some of the pieces. No indication of a timescale as yet.
