played on the Hohner Corona GCF
Excellent LM sound: what Corona model is that, a IIIR or a more recent model?

A New Englander's attempt at totm some mistakes playing part b three times I got distracted by the cat looking to get up on the counter and trying to add part c as lester did (not sure if i got the timing right) which i like because the tune is pretty repetitive  maybe i just need to use some ornamentation.
anyway a fun tune to learn thanks to all !!

For some unknown reason, I managed to get something resembling of a hang of this one.  I'm usually still trying a couple of months later.

Anyhow, debut performance on an Excelsior Chiltern, recorded with a really awful microphone...

Here's my first crack at TOTM.  Idbury Hill.  I'm using a C. Mory D/G as it has a single reed stop for the right hand and removable thirds for the left, both of which suit the atmosphere of the melody I think.  It can be played this way on a 2 row 8 bass too.

Hope this doesn't appear twice!  It vanished on first posting!

Somewhat late.. the eleventh hour and all that. It's amazing how your fingers get in a tangle when the camera is rolling...

Never very happy with the basses available to me on my AA# or C#D, I decided to go bottomless with my D one row.

I've known that tune for about 40 years, and used to hear it from Orange flute bands every summer in Glasgow.  I imagine the entire population of Northern Ireland knows it.  But I've never heard that name for it until today.

It's "The Boyne Water", adopted by Burns (under that name) as the tune for "Parcel of Rogues".  It probably dates back to very soon after the Battle of the Boyne.

It's pretty weird that such a VERY well known tune, with 300 years of sectarian political associations, could get renamed into something so nondescript.  Idbury seems to have no links whatever with anything north of the border or across the Irish Sea.

Some fine playing though.

Small warning: don't dance to that one in Glasgow or Belfast unless you are VERY handy with those sticks.

I can't figure out how to quit but I will no longer check this group and have deleted all shortcuts to it.

Well, this tune has numerous names - I'm sure they've been discussed here, if not I expect they shortly will be. As Idbury Hill it is associated with a Bledington Morris dance, Idbury being a small village approx 2 miles SW of Bledington, with some pleasant views.
One supposes that this version of the tune is named for the dance, and since we seem to have many more Morris people here than sectarian Protestants, that is how we know it.
The dance is not always done to this tune, Morning Star is sometimes used instead. However, IMO, this tune fits the dance much better. Also Morning Star has far too many notes.

PS I seem to recall Idbury has an iron age fort, although the relevance to the song, dance, or Protestant politics is unclear to me.
