At least they sat the banjo away from the mic!

I've seen the same sheet of jokes about banjo players written as melodeon jokes, too.  To be fair, it's a great combination if the banjo player is really good - ever listened to Rob Murch?

I love that photo -- and the Flanagan brothers.  There's a wonderful recording of Joe, playing (and maybe he's also lilting?) Scotch Mary and the Green Groves of Erin, re-released on this cd:

This is one of several different, interesting accordions I've seen in photos of Joe.  A rare model of Hohner, maybe customized for him?  The keyboard reminds me of some Italian instruments from that period.

Mory--

Just playing into the negative stereotype of both banjos and melodeons being considered noisy, unmusical instruments.

Some other "worst of both worlds" stereotypes:

"Banjo-mandolins" (notwithstanding the late, great George Formby)
Playing "frailing style" on the ukulele.....

I am sure there are plenty of others....
