There we go, that'll do I think. Added back the old menus and resized the quote text. Now to test custom emoticons... but I think I'm done now.

We're now running SMF 2.0.2, and Simple Portal 2.3.4. I haven't reinstalled the antispammer plugins yet; we can do that if/when we're ready to have a go at allowing automatic registration again.

Cheers,

Clive

Thanks Clive

I think there may be other antispam options with 2.0, but I've not read up properly yet.

Congratulations on an apparently seamless migration, Clive!
The only comments I have are:
(a) The general message font and/or size seems smaller than before, with more white space between lines, giving it a rather too much of a spread-out look.
(b) - possibly related, some of the signature lines have too much white space beneath last line.

I find what Steve calls the "spread-out look" to be an improvement.

My previously one line sig banner has expanded somewhat!

[edit] .. looks to be due to tightening of the the right hand column

If I'd thought, I'd have taken a range of screenshots from various browsers of the old site; I did happen to have a tab open on the old site on Chrome though, and the font is the same size, though it's subtlely different (I think it might be a different font family). It's also greyer this time round, and slightly thinner.

The sig lines seem fine to me on Chrome, but they are a bigger font - the old site had a vertically more compressed font in there. If you type a one liner post it will pad space after the sig to fill up the message to equal that in the left hand user info block. I assume the old site did that too. Are you seeing different behaviour on other browsers?

BUG: I get little man, world, envelope and speech bubble icons to the left (under the ativar) in FF, only the world icon in MSIE

[edit] .. whoops - I thing it's 'cos MSIA isn't signed in - yup all is well now - sorry Clive

my sig line sets its own font size, could do with a few more bytes thought .. had to cheat like mad to get the Morris Ring firing squad cartoon to display properly at all window sizes!

I think the default font on the new message space is Georgia which does indeed have a thinner, greyer look about it. The old font was Verdana, I think.

On the old site, the sig lines were always shifted down to the bottom, so in short, one-line messages, any required white space to accommodate the left-hand user block occurred at the bottom of the message body, not at the bottom of the sig.

I'm using Mac OS 10.6.8 with Safari mainly, but occasionally Firefox. The balance between white space and 'clutter' is handled better by Safari rather than Firefox.

Ultimately, we are talking about very subtle changes here, and also the 'conservative' reaction to anything that is slightly new. I'm sure we'll all get used to the new look very quickly.  ;)

(Have to say I don't particularly like the new smileys though - the shading on the faces detracts from the overall expressions. However I'm glad to see the customised forum smileys are still there.  :Ph )

The WAP version is much improved. Bigger entry box and decent quote marking in the posts :)

The WAP version has a curious "moderate" option

I have just downloaded a text file posted by Miklos in the Tabledit for B/C thread. The file is shown as having a .txt extension but on download (with Opera) it had an .mp3 extension, meaning I had to save it as... with a .txt extension than open it immediately. It would be good to fix this, esp. if the same occurs with other permitted file types (.doc, .pdf, etc.)

Clive - for some reason text in "tables" now is small size.  Can see no reason for this, and also use tables occasionally for layouts.

Might we have the old version back please? (unless anyone else "loves" it)

Sure, I'll tweak the CSS files when I get a chance (house is in a bit of builder chaos at the moment so bear with me!)  :o
