Tune of the Month for April 2012: Planxty Irwin
« on: April 01, 2012, 10:34:19 AM »

Here we go folks, by the thinnest of margins, this month's winner is Planxty Irwin, which I think is a Carolan piece, isn't it? Perhaps some kind soul will provide some ABC in a minute?

Happy playing!

Clive

And here's Martin Ellison's rather lovely version of it:

My contribution for this month,

Planxty Irwin is a tune I really don't get on with, because I've never heard a version I liked (in most sessions, it just becomes a dirge). However, Howard's changed all that. Thank you. Lovely rendition and a great sounding box - what is it? (Apologies if that's been asked before).

Thanks.  The box is a Bertrand Gaillard in C/G.

There you go, after the umpteenth take. It's in D with the thirds stop out.

Thanks.  The box is a Bertrand Gaillard in C/G.

I love the sound of the Gaillard. Excuse my ignorance but is a C/G different to a G/C ?
Thanks

No, it's the same. I can never remember which way to put these things.

Melodeons are described from the outside row moving inwards. Anglo concertinas from the middle row moving towards the wrists.

So G/C, D/G, G/C/F,  B/C, C/C#, etc., are melodeons; C/G, G/D, F/C etc., are anglos.

HA! yes, a failed experiment - thought I'd just show the buttons and my hand, but the hand almost disappeared! I'll have another crack at it if I get time, but thanks for the compliment Roger

OK, here's 'Take 2',  a tad slower and more visible! Not brilliant sound, but it's a phone I'm using.

Frank - try using the edit facility on you tube. You can brighten it up that way.
