...I'm playing the melodeon since august 2012 and I'm still feeling like an absolute beginner,
just haven't got the time to practice... This is called carolans draught (an attempt after about 7 weeks of practice),
it's normally played slower, and it's more suitable for harps or guitars, but I really like this tune...
anyway, I keep on trying, still not over the "uhm-pah" yet...
thanks so much everyone for the support and inspiration on this site!!!

Sounds pretty good to me!  I think it's easy to be over-critical of one's own playing. I think you'll find that every extra month of playing leads to gradual but consistent progress. I still find that every new tune takes a few weeks to become "camera-ready", but the time frame is slowly shortening.

Having plucked up courage to record something, i now notice it isn't actually a tune of the month = hope nobody minds.
I have now been playing exactly one month, and loving it. Here is the link to Estrellas by Stephane Delicq (sorry i didn't edit the walking back to the camera bit off the end):

Excellent, breathtaking progress for just one month's playing on the melodeon - well done indeed! Your musicianship and accordion/keyboard skills clearly show through.

Will look forward to more of your offerings....  (:)

I guess it's about time I put something up here. I have discovered a button on my camera that makes by brain turn to mush and my fingers to jelly, but here is what happened when I used it. Eventually.

Highland Mary Bampton

(Had a "mental block" about using basses for a looong time. Mel Biggs (Melodemon) helped me work through it)

Thanks for those supportive comments, and well done too to Malcolm Bebb - your recording makes me realise that I'm avoiding pieces with frequent changes in bellows direction - or maybe the French stuff I like doesn't do that.

Here's some hornpipes. Still working on transition between tunes and I messed up a bit in the second one but didn't feel like trying another take. Hornpipes are my favorite tunes so perhaps there will be more to come.

Playing the diatonic accordion since may 2012, I'd like to present two soundclouded tunes. The first one is written by myself, the second one is an adaption of a famous tv series of the 80s. I'm playing on Hohner Liliput in Bb/Eb.

Here's my second upload - now playing for seven weeks. This is Delicq's Chevaux de Bois. Please excuse the edit - I had to take out a bellows return as I ended up in the wrong place - hope it's not against the ethics of uploads. I am very lucky to have my hands on a lovely instrument (not mine).

Second attempt - good old STP. Getting more comfortable with it, left hand wants to play more often.
Couple of mistakes, but not so bad and it's only about take 4...

I think it sounds good! You seem much better with the left hand than I am. I'm really having a hard time with managing the basses.

Thanks Susi!
I didn't think it would ever happen, everyone told me it would eventually, and they were right. Still got a way to go, but it's getting easier now.
I guess I slowed right down and just kept coming back to it, with breaks when I got fed up.

Hi Malcolm,

I must have missed your video posting on April 19th. Not like me but in my defence I was on a brewery tour and dance out that day  :||: :|glug

Nice playing, it's certainly coming along... nice even tempo too.  Fancy having a crack at TOTM for May?

Totm for May seems like a killer to me! It's a nice tune but I simply can't find it on the melodeon. At least not in any way that is playable. I love it on the concertina though.

Here is me playing it that may (or may not) help

Hmm - brewery tour - read Melnet. Tough, but I understand.  :|glug

Think I'll join Susi and play it on the concertina.  :||:   :|||:
