Speed the Plough - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNhTLs16ZV0&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/url

That's that one sorted then, what's next? (you do realise that a repeat performance at that standard elevates you beyond beginner status?)

Speed the Plough - I now know how other's feel when filming themselves or performing; somehow all the 'perfect' rehearsals are to no avail when the record light is flashing!  Ha ha. Sounds so 'stilted'.  Keep practicing, I know, I know!!  Anyway I now have a repertoire of two tunes - so no need to worry just yet Lester :D

Well done!
So far I have failed to get a video of my erratic performances...It doesn't seem to matter how many times you tell yourself that the camera is not transmitting -( so relax and if you make a mistake, so what? )- every time that little recording light goes on, the mind wanders and the fingers fail to work!!!
Still I've had a lot of fun trying to record something and laughing at the results! (Not sure the neighbour is so amused)

I totally know the pain of making mistakes when recording.. the camera plays tricks with us, I'm sure. I think you're doing great in this video, though.

Beginners' Showcase! Finally.

This was for the March 2012 Theme of the Month: Film Music. I was far too shy to post it then, but here it is now.

Edelweiss, from The Sound of Music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuWxBXLpG0c
On the Dino Baffetti Binci 3-voice. Sorry if you need to turn the volume down.

This sounds great! Especially the second time through when you added those harmonies.

Hello everybody...........

here’s  a couple of tunes for the beginners showcase.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=bH2o47sSV9w
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=X09l30uAChE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=qF88TcVUrhk

As you will see this is my first post, although I have been lurking for a while. I began playing in August 2013 after buying my daughter a Scarlatti Nero at Towersey Festival. I picked it up when she wasn’t playing it and fell under its spell. Not wanting to ‘Bogart’ her instrument, I had to buy myself another box and found an old D/G Gremlin which you see in the videos, which has very recently begun making a strange sound on one of the notes.
Having learnt a couple of tunes, I thought I’d attend a local session, just to listen really and join in where I could, so last night I went to the pub with my box...........Great night, really nice people but any talent I had for the Melodeon vanished as other people played along. It was fun though and I will be going again.
Oh and BTW, my musical experience.............I play Bass guitar in a Pub Rock band playing 60’s/70’s/80’s rock covers, but only play by ear or Tab, can’t read music and don’t know the scales.
Regards, Simon.

Hi Simon, welcome to the best bloomin' melodeon site on the net  (:)
Well done to ya, sounding good!
What do you mean however by: "very recently begun making a strange sound on one of the notes." ?

Hi Ted, thanks for the welcome,
The really high note on princess royal sounded very odd compared to how it has in the past, so I've just opened the box up and found the problem.
There was a thin plastic strip which had become detached and was fouling one of the reeds, I removed it and re attached it and all seems back to normal.

I wasn't going to share this because it still needs work and I feel somewhat overwhelmed posting in the Tune of the Month forums proper because you are all so good.   There seem to be few postings from beginner/intermediate players  at the moment - hence I am sticking to the safety of the 'Beginner's Showcase' thread for now.

I have decided to post it because although I am not going to make any formal 'boxolutions' this year I do want to tackle the TOTM tunes more often and I have to get more used to playing in front of others more confidently.

This was TOTM for October 2012 when I had only had my pokerwork for a few weeks.

South Downs Jig recorded on a wet New Year's Day.

No need, that is a great rendition.

For what it's worth Helena, a member of my family has been looking for a nice and clear version of the SDJ with some embellishments, I have referred them onto your video and they are very impressed. (:) I like it, should be in a TOTM though  >:E ;D

needs more work

I would say it's already had a lot of work done. Beautifully played and a pleasure to listen to!

Thank you all for your positive feedback, it is genuinely appreciated and will boost my confidence to post in TOTM proper. I do suffer from lack of confidence in my playing so often record stuff but chicken out of sharing it, maybe other new players feel the same?

Two New Year's 'boxolutions' from me after all - one, to have the courage to participate in TOTM more fully and two, to encourage and support other newbies who may be earlier in their melodeon journey than I am.  Onwards and upwards!

I couldn't agree more, great tempo and phrasing. Like it or not you've left the beginner stage behind, so now it's time to cheer on the young 'uns and join the main stream. They don't bite you know and will always remain supportive, that's what melnet is all about!

Brilliant. Huge pride in your progress but its all down to you and the time you've dedicated to your instrument!

Great control over the rhythm. So lovely! Well done :D

PS I can't see much that can be improved with this version. Nothing that won't come naturally with time anyway. It's really very good :)

Deep breath ... here goes.

I bought my first melodeon last October (an ex-demo Sandpiper D/G) naively thinking that this melodeon thing couldn't be too difficult.  Boy was I wrong!  However, I wasn't anticipating how addictive it is (sorry to wife, neighbours, dogs etc).

Anyway, this is my first attempt at the Morris tune Monks March:

http://youtu.be/apoMjmhOj1U

The timing is a bit wobbly and it's not the full number of A/B bits - this was the longest I could get through without messing up completely (I think this was take 14!).

Be gentle with me ... (:)

Well done! The rhythm wasn't too wobbly at at all, nice and steady and crisp all the way though.
I'd say you're off to a promising start there, and it will get easier.

Many thanks for the feedback - much appreciated (:)  Also, huge thanks to you, Lester and all the others here who post videos for those of us starting out to use as motivation/inspiration.  More practice this evening ...  :D
