Long wrist/sweatbands?
« on: April 13, 2012, 02:28:04 PM »

Hi All,
I have an ordinary sized wrist sweat band, around 2.5" or 6-7cm long, that goes over my metal wrist watch strap.
Any ideas where to get longer ones that don't necessarily have Nike or Addidas branded all over them?
It's not that i'm a sweaty person, I just like to protect my boxes!
cheers

Plain (or patterned if you like) knee-length socks, with the feet cut off and the raw ends turned under and hemmed?
I'm sure LdT would have some comment to make here!  ;)

It would be quite easy to sew one...I think I've seen a pattern for one somewhere. (skip to 1.49 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQD8NR-ye58  would be similar principal for wristband)
Or you could try something like this?

The usual solution is for accordion players to wear the watch on the right wrist when playing.

Ahhhh didn't think I'd get into fashion statements  :D

After posting I forgot to make an important admission: My wrist watch is always worn and on my left wrist.
I'm currently typing after an April shower's got me in from gardening, one of the few times it is taken off, and I feel utterly lost without it. Taking it off then possibly misplacing it would be very costly and the huge sentimental value makes it simply not an option. I always wear it.

Not sure if knee length socks is a bit overkill, though perhaps worth a look when next in town.
Hadn't thought about making them, will chat to my wife who's a dab hand with a sewing machine, good thought!
I think I've seen some 'goth' clothing which for some inexplicable reason includes sweat bands, might also be worth looking at.....will go for a Google!
I asked as was wondering what others do.
Q
off for another quick plant in between showers............

I use these - http://www.biglaces.com/mall/productpage.cfm/BigLaces/_WB85-WHT_RED/%2D/Sports%20Quality%20Red%20White%20Wristband (two guesses why :P). They're bigger than what I used to have, and well padded. I have a spare than I can bring to FGM practice next weekend, and send it home with the girls, if you want?

Most players (and even some non-players) I know wear their watch on the right or not at all. Even so, some still sport wrist bands, especially when playing pokerworks.

Black ones are best as they don't show the dirt.

I find Lonsdale are cheapest. I got a load from Sports Direct in early November and have one in the case of each box. This seems to be a good time to go hunting, as they are trying to get rid post Summer/Wimbledon and even the other brands are discounted. Don't think you can get an unbranded one, but you can always have the logo innermost or turn them inside out.

why not go completely over the top and use a kevlar arm sleeve. they go all the way from your elbow to your palm with a hole for your thumb. they can be folded down as theyre quite soft. if you wanted to try it i could send you one.

Lester - I'm lost without one, I really am!

Putting my wrist watch on my right hand is like......  turning the melodeon upside down and trying to play.
It stays on my Left Wrist at All times  >:E

Thanks Ollie, a kind offer, but I now think I'm ok. I've followed up your link and hopefully have two sets winging my way as soon as their hampsters have sorted the order.

Kevlar  ??? Is that to deflect stray bullets if I play the wrong tune at the wrong speed  with too many 'other' notes.... ???
Not me sir, you must have the wrong player there......  ::)
thanks all, now sorted and waiting for postie!

I made the switch from left to right wrist for my watch some time after starting melodeon. It did take me ages to stop inspecting the freckles on my left arm in search of the time, but now I'm perfectly used to it. I sometimes switch it back for a while if for some reason it's irritating my wrist, and find I am totally ambi-wristous - it only takes me fraction of a second now to work out where the watch is and look in the right place. Except when I forget to put it on at all, and spend ages peering and fumbling around my cuffs.

But if that all sounds too traumatic, another thing you could try is taking the cuff off an old cotton sweatshirt, and stiching the top end to finish it off (your wife will advise, I'm sure). In fact, do it with both sleeves and you'll have one for spare.

'ambi-wristous'...... hmmmm like that!
I can paint ambidextrously but am not ambi-bateous ( cricket ) as I prefer a right hand bat, prefer left foot for kicking, and at a couple of archery 'goes' totally confuse the poor instructer as it simply doesn't matter which way round I shoot!

These ones Ollie's linked me to are definitely longer ( 11cm v's a normal sports shop's 6-7cm ) so I think the extra bit will probably be fine - and logo free as a bonus!
I've got into the habit of wearing a cuff so it will help me staring at a blank wrist in total confusion, esprecially if a tad refreshed  :|glug
Anything to prevent confusion  ;D

I usually take my watch off in sessions and just stuff it in my pocket.  Trouble is it's one of those digital radio controlled ones - corrects itself every day, set by the cesium clock signal.  One day I put it back on and it was an hour fast - damn!  I've nearly finished the Spring cleaning and just found the instructions to put it right.

I nipped outside for a quick play today in mid-gardening mode, one of the only times my watch comes off.
As it was already off, I just played, no watch, no sweat band - a naked left hand  >:E
It felt really strange ???
Perhaps I need the weight to counter balance me!

What's all the fuss Q?  Surely the only time scale you have to worry about is "Dreckly..."

You could always buy some extra large panty liners and stick them on the area of the box that is likely to be abraded by the watch.  Steer clear of the winged varieties though.
