What box(es)?
« on: April 14, 2012, 06:06:46 PM »

I've just discovered/downloaded a cracking version of "Banks of the Dee/William and Nancy",by Saul Rose,on the album Banquet of Boxes.
Being just a novice, and having an untrained ear,I'm just intrigued as to what instrument(s) are being played.
Is there a church organ in there somewhere ? :o

Saul plays an Castagnari Hanrdy 18 bass, called Blondie.  :P The variety of sounds created is down the different reed settings possible on the Handry.

Greyhound - welcome to the mad house!
Yes those tracks certainly turned my head, and I too wondered how you get such wonderful sounds from a box.
As Ollie says he plays a Handry. I was lucky enough to see him play at a ceilidh with the band he plays in called Random. Their tunes were superb, really different ones, very danceable and understated. It was the first and only time I've seen Saul play. That was a revelation.
I have to say - Blondie is a huge beast, and yes he has many option with it to enable such a varied and brilliant sound to come out, but it's at a cost of lugging something huge around.
Great if you can manage it. I can't!
cheers

I think I'm starting to get most of the notes in roughly the right order...... sometimes!
