Tango Siempre - Midnight Tango
« on: April 18, 2012, 09:24:12 AM »

An interview with bandoneonist Julian Rowland about playing bandoneon and the show Midnight Tango. http://www.strumentiemusica.com/en/highlights/midnight-tango-amazing-dancers-and-the-super-ensemble-of-tango-siempre/

I saw the show back in January and the music is superb (and live on stage).

Very interesting, I`d love to try a bandoneon as it`s like the missing link between Melodeons and Concertinas (but tuned LM from what I gather) .

That's a bit misleading, it's like saying a CBA is a melodeon  because it has buttons on both sides (:).

It's a seperate strand of development (with lots of mainly failed off-shoots) where no-one was prepared to go back to basics and be logical about it.

To the contrary, Herman Band was VERY logical!  How else coudl he have designed such a fiendish instrument that can play in virtaully whatever key you like, each as difficult as the other?    >:E

To be fair there are spasms of logicality there, most of two octaves of G, A and E major across both sides are easy enough  (:)

However that does happen to coincide with the thirty button layout of the 1830/40s original, after that it does get a might confusing.
