Making changes in nailed reeds
« on: June 09, 2012, 07:09:18 PM »

Another request for info please.
I'm interested in a maugein box seen in a small ad... But then I remembered that they had NAILED reeds instead of waxed.
It's very likely that I may wish to change around the reeds to fit the button arrangements I am used to.
So, does the nailing mean that it would be difficult or impossible to make those changes?

you may have to move the leather sealing surfaces , in addition to carving/adding wood to the block to accommodate the new reed. I recommend getting a wire drill a bit smaller than the nails used to pre drill the new nail holes, this will avoid splitting the block when you put in the nails.
