Hello everybody,

This is my first visit in a while to mel.net and I saw this topic, so I thought I'd post.

Hope you like it!

Excellent playing and tune - I'm hoping you'll become a regular visitor and contributor - nice one!

Here's my effort for this section. In common with several other players, I seem to be wearing the same shirt as my last post. We obviously spend more on melodeons than clothes.

I'm currently on holiday with a friend in the beautiful Cornish village of Polperro. Last night, went for a walk, and ended up stopping on a bench on the eastern headland overlooking the village. It was a gorgeous summer's evening (here are some pictures - http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150913652783178.418330.615573177&type=1) and we ended up playing a few tunes. Then, I started noodling, and the following tune came out. I nearly made my friend cry - it was quite a special moment. I recorded this on my iPhone, on the bench, just after I'd written it. If you listen carefully, you can hear the sea in the background. :)

Enjoy. :)

Ollie - this was one of those recordings that raised the hairs on the back of my neck.  A very moving post and an awesome tune, beautifully played.  Thank you (:)

A tune written to commemorate the bicentennial of the Battle of Queenston Heights from the war of 1812. The battle took place a few miles from where I now live. Queenston Heights is situated on strategic spot, overlooking the Niagara River, about 5 miles downstream from Niagara Falls. The British commander, General Isaac Brock, leading a force of British regulars, Canadian militia & Mohawk warriors faced an invading force of American regulars & militia. The battle was eventually won, but the British lost their most capable soldier - while attempting to re-take the Heights Brock was killed by a musket shot to the chest.

The great Canadian folksinger Stan Rogers wrote a superb song on the subject:

Here's my ThOTM debut. A tune made this evening.  It is for our 40th wedding anniversary.   It has no name as yet, and as you can hear I've not yet learned to play it properly. :'(  It is intended to be a slow smoochy mazurka.

Just realised the first A part is repeated - it shouldn't be! ::)

The tune now has a name " The Ruby".  When I've had a bit more learning time on it I'll post a better  recording.

Somewhat hesitantly played, a forced out new tune written with a one row in mind. I tried not to think about chords and texture for a change which might explain a few cliche phrases. I thought it reminded me at times of the Phillipe Bruneau reels and of Yarmouth Breakdown so it's called 'Philippe's Breakdown'. (Played on D row only apart from the last chord  (:))

Sandy, Soundcloud is saying it can't find your track, is it still there?
Sorry I don't know if it was ever there. Maybe as I had the setting on private. Trying to work out how to change the setting to public. Can anyone point me in the right direction  :|bl

Cheers,

Sandy

Click on the SHARE thingy (top left hand above the play button) there should appear as if by magic a dialogue box with a Make Public option.
