The tune now has a name " The Ruby".  When I've had a bit more learning time on it I'll post a better  recording.

This is much improved  (:) :

Very pretty, indeed.  Thanks for posting that.

End of the month folks - time for a new theme!

Late contributions always welcome as ever - just stick them on the end of the thread here!

Here's a little schottische that I wrote this afternoon.

http://soundcloud.com/olliekingbox/end-of-an-era

I finish my A levels on Friday, hence the name. Played on my GC Hohner. Interestingly, I recorded this straight to Soundcloud using the iPhone app - for what is it, I'm pretty impressed with the recording quality.

Just listened to this, and really like it, especially the A part.  a definite candidate for July's theme.  thanks Ollie.

This scottische is going down well at our session, so bringing it to notice again( hoping someone else might record it, of course ;))

The Ruby won the original composition class at Rothbury Traditional Music Festuval today!

I must now make a better recording.

I've been enjoying replaying The Ruby on soundcloud to pick up the tune, but would you mind allowing us to download it from soundcloud? Your suspended chords and basses work really well with the melody to give the tune that lovely feel. Thanks

I can give you some information on the chords I use.  I don't always play them the same, so rather than trying to copy this particular recording just try some of these:

All the chords are open fifths. This is essential.
Basses have the low note removed, but this is not essential.
I'm using only the standard 8 bass buttons.
I always play the high F# on push so I can play it against a B chord
I use both rows most of the time to keep the phrasing smooth
experiment with the chords, just about any LH chord works in some way at any given point in the tune.
I quite often use the C chord +D bass, especially at the end of a phrase.

What instrument are you playing?

A 1990s window Castagnari Mory that I was fortunate to acquire recently, and that I have tuned and revised to my taste.  It was originally MMM tuned to a very wet musette, now it is more conventional Castagnari tuning as you can hear.

Here's another little tune that popped out about an hour ago. A mazurka called Calm Before the Storm.

Hope you like it. :)

I do like your tune a lot Ollie....but having  a slight problem with Jealousy. More comments after I give it more attention.

After encouragement from EllisSteph, here's my first tune from my Mallorcan walks named after Carrer D'Isabel, the street from Soller Station into the hills. No matter how many times I record, there are always some mistakes, so here it is.

http://youtu.be/nwQgUrrWURQ

Dots are here, as originally noted, but I've simplified the B music.

Bravo Jack! You beat me to it. I've just returned from a few days away so will post my version shortly. I have to say it's stretched me a bit and it will be the simplified version. But then what is Melnet for if not to improve yourself.

OK, let's try this then! I've created a new 'sticky' 'write a tune' thread in the Recordings and Videos section, here:

http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,10049.0.html

Let's see if we can't keep this going and have lots more great tunes!

New postings over there please, I'll lock this thread.

Cheers,

Clive
