I have a Castagnari Nik and a Saltarelle Lorelei. Both are G/C boxes and both are swing tuned. With the stops on the Lorelei set so the same number of reeds are playing on both boxes the Saltarelle has a brighter sound than the Castagnari. Said another way, the Castagnari has a more mellow sound than the Saltarelle. They seem to play at about the same volume. I like them both.

Hello

Could also be useful having links to Saltarelle soundfiles somewhere on the internet.

Hi...I seem to remember th music room has clips of Jon Loomes (who's a member here) playing a salterelle. Someone more clever than I can probably take you straight there...

There's some clips of Jon playing various instruments on YouTube.  Whether they're the clips Baz is talking about I don't know.   As I'm at work can't access YouTube to give you links.  Search using melodeon should work.

Thanks for the link to Jon Loomes. Sounds to me like somewhere between Castagnari and Mengascini - at least regarding the models I know from the two brands - not a bad place to stay according to my taste and way of playing . Then of course there are the questions of tuning and number af reeds left.
Thank you for the answers.
