Seeing as I've already visited Hunt the Squirrel, I figured I'd add two the this month's theme :) The first is an old recording, Cold Frosty Morning:

That looks effortless and sounds fantastic. Loved everything about it. Maybe I should buy a one row and learn how to use bellows.

I looked through my collection of tunes for frost, snow, ice, winter, christmas and couldn't find anything to take my fancy which hasn't already been done then I found this tune "Unchristmas" by John Kirkpatrick. It's on his album The Dance of the Demon Daffodils hiding at the end of a track after two other tunes and the dots are in his book Jump at the Sun.
It's in 7/4 and originally in D. Here on my G/C Bertrand Gaillard in G. Probably trying to play a bit too fast so the triplets are not as crisp as they could be!

That's two good tunes really well played. I love the strong left hand.
I hadn't encountered Horslips "Drive The Cold Winter Away" before. I have loved them ever since I heard The Tain, though. Thanks for the introduction to the album.

Thanks Greg. Yes, please do check out Horslips' DTCWA album, it's a collection of festive/Wintery traditional tunes & songs from Eire & Britain. I'm a massive Horslips fan! Here's a link to a Horslips melodeon project I embarked on a while back you may find of interest:

I dumped all my grand plans and sat sat down and recorded my favourite carol, this morning. One dry run then one take. The basses are just what came out  8). It was only supposed to be a practice, but it wasn't too bad, so...

Theme of the Month Part 1: The advent hymn "O Come O Come Emanuel"  looking forward to the birth of Christ and played on a  BC .

One verse only and there's a stutter in he middle.

Theme of the Month Part 2: Leanabh an Aighe - "Baby of Joy" probably the best known of all Gaelic Christmas carols and played on an AD -

https://youtu.be/07-0kVLzhM8

In both cases I have sung the words but not played any basses at all - it is very much a matter of one or the other- voice or basses.

For the first time I used a camera on a tripod which was a lot easier to operate than a phone balanced on a music stand. Had real problems with the camera batteries and it was just a matter of 1 take and post. But you only get one take when you play before an audience at all.

The BC is a Hohner Morgane (hired from Feisean nan Gaidheal) whilst the AD is an International Vienna Type, 21 key x 6 bass and probably my favourite box.

Nollaig Chridheil a-rithis

Only one verse and a stutter in the middle but with the batteries failing on the camera that was the least of my problems... The box is a Hohner Morgane hired from Feisean na Gaidheal (and absolutely wasted on me).

Theme of the Month Part 2: -----maybe later

I wish I could hold a note like you. The Morgane has a lovely sound. The day of the Hohners!
Do you ever sing to the playing of your basses?

Using my basses alone as acompaniement to my singing? No. Sadly I don't have a strong enough sense of pitch/control of my own voice to hold a note against another note. My voice pitch is actually tracking the pitch the accordion is producing-  if I was singing without it my intervals would be all over the place.

There are a couple of songs that I can just about keep melodeon basses going with and sing at the same time but that's pretty much my limit with the basses at the moment- And yes the Morgane is a beautiful sounding box.

Thanks everyone - a new theme is coming along in a minute. Please place any last minute festive tunes on the end here as usual! :-)
