gavotte de l'Aven "caresse"- a simplified gavotte style developed in SW and central France, expressing only the central, lilting, and beautifully hypnotic 4-in-line part of the dance. And it's
wonderful to dance to
It would not be accepted as a gavotte in the Aven valley, where they dance a whole suite of moves including single couple bits. I might seem pedantic … but in the end this is truly a living tradition, and they are entitled to their view.
I have to say that the pauses and lilt of Toon's tune match the dance better than some traditional airs. But it IS a new style!
