Theme of the Month for July 2020: TV Themes
« on: July 01, 2020, 09:35:57 AM »

Hi all,

We did film themes a few months back; now we've all been stuck at home for 3 months or so, let's try TV themes. Any old thing no matter how tangential will do as usual, and if it's particularly old/obscure, tell us a bit about the show too!

:-)

Imagine that you’re back in the UK of the 1970s, watching your 6 inch Murphy black and white TV set which you’ve got on rental ......

Z cars on Tuesday evening :

On Saturday there’s a Western to watch, Big Country

More hits from the 1960s and 70s.

Do you remember those great Popeye cartoons ?

And Casey Jones, at the throttle of the Cannonball Express

If you were good you were allowed to stay up and watch Dr. Finlay’s Casebook.
‘Oh Dr. Finlay, we’re having the Vicar for Tea’.
‘That will make a change from kippers, Janet!’

This was a great 1970s and 80s series about a detective in the Netherlands, with Barry Foster in the title role :

Van Der Valk , the tune is called High Level

Bugger...you beat me to it...almost like it was written for the melodeon. Well done  :|glug

PS The remake was "interesting"

Your middle 8 is rather more melodeon friendly than the actual tune  (:)

For those looking for inspiration, I came across this video playlist today.

https://www.youtube.com/user/LouishWaltz/videos

Gosh - some of those take me back. Who remembers Marine Boy? "Don't go Marine Boy, it's too dangerous" "But faaaaatheeer I must" "All right then".

(Pedant warning!) It's actually called "Eye Level" - played by the Simon Park Orchestra.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV8t3jA-krc

Among others, Saltarelle Pastourelle II D/G; Hohner 4-stop 1-rows in C & G; assorted Hohners; 3-voice German (?) G/C of uncertain parentage; lovely little Hlavacek 1-row Heligonka; B♭/E♭ Koch. Newly acquired G/C Hohner Viktoria. Also Fender Jazz bass, Telecaster, Stratocaster, Epiphone Sheraton, Charvel-Jackson 00-style acoustic guitar, Danelectro 12-string and other stuff..........

The theme tune that led to hundreds of inner city lads (and probably girls) in short trousers and V necked cardigans sporting totally inappropriate headgear....

https://youtu.be/fshC2HBgxDY

Played slower than the original, it has the makings o fquite a nice hopstep,  I think ... :|glug

(I've just realised this is inextricably linked to my post for Film Themes...says a lot about my childhood...)

Inappropriate? Your's must have been real fur, then. I loved mine, but it was only imitation. Looking at your picture now, Baz, you'd really suit one; "Fess" Parkes has quite a ring to it, don't you think?
